Similiarly Different Essay During the time in American history known as the, several poets began to stray from the traditional methods of writing poetry. Among these poets were Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. While these writers led drastically different lifestyles and had drastically different styles of writing, the messages they presented through their writing were often surprisingly similar. Whitmans poem Song of Myself, No.6 and Dickinsons poem This quiet Dust was Gentlemen and Ladies are examples of pieces which, on the surface, appear completely different, but in fact contain several similarities. Indeed, several similarities and differences can be found between these two poems. While these works by Whitman and Dickinson are different in many ways, a few similarities can be found between the two. The most obvious of these similarities involves the themes and subject matter of the pieces. Both poems present the idea that life is a continuous and constant circle and that no one is ever really dead as long as he is remembered. Each also suggests that Earth is a living thing which all humans are a piece of in both life and death. Another likeness which can be found in these two poems is the imagery used by the authors. Through Whitmans detailed and vivid description, he allows the reader to form a clear picture of the scene in his head. Likewise, Dickinson use of personification causes the poem to come alive in the readers mind. Indeed, by observing the themes and imagery found in these two poems, one can see that they do contain some similarities. Though these similarities do exist, there are also several quite obvious differences between the two. The most noticeable distinguishment involves the length of the poems. While Whitmans Song of Myself is quite lengthy, giving detailed and wordy descriptions, Dickinsons This quiet dust was Gentlemen and Ladies is much more concise and to the point. While Whitman tends toleave little to the imagination, Dickinson uses very few, carefully selected words, forcing the reader contemplate the meaning of the poem and create his own image of the scene being described. Another outstanding difference between these poems is the rhyme scheme and meter used. Whitmans poem contains no obvious meter or rhyme, but is written freely and without any apparent structure. Dickinson, on the other hand, uses an abcbdefe slant rhyme scheme, as well as an obvious meter. Without a doubt, the styles of writing used by Dickinson and Whitman in these poems contain several differences. Certainly, by studying these two poems, one can detect several obvious similarities and differences between the two. While the poems are extremely alike in the messages they present, they are as different as can be in other ways. If the word becomes ubiquitous, then you make up even more complex words that have simple meanings, such as ubiquitous. If this doesnt work, then you must resort to using neojargon or pseudojargon or neopseudojargon or neopseudoneojargon. Examples of these forms of jargon are the prefixes neo and pseudo.3. GraikosGraikos is a Greek word that means Greek. Its the root of much stupidity found in scholarly discursions. Its essentially random which side is considered the supervising authority since they both consider the other as worthless scum, but often its the faction with more college degrees, which uses more venomous attacks to maintain parity. Whichever side is considered the supervising authority becomes the intimidator of the layman and the others who kept their ego below threshold are victims, doomed to low self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness.5. Authorized, Sanctioned and Sacred StupidityTo appease the scholars, the authorities determine guilt and visit sanctions and punishment on the intimidated. This escalates the stupidity to the next higher level of authority in our culture.The 5-stage pattern repeats at all the levels of power and for arrogance and stupidity. The most virulent monopolies that scholars enjoy are over respect, attention, money, power, land, or ideology. Work continued on the vessel and it slid down the ways on June 28, 1944, with Rose Gillette, wife of Senator Guy Gillette of Iowa, serving as sponsor. A week later, Randolphs aircraft struck airfields around Tokyo and the Tachikawa engine plant before turning south. Arriving near Iwo Jima, they mounted raids in support of Allied forces ashore. USS Randolph (CV-15) - Campaigning in the Pacific: Remaining in the vicinity of Iwo Jima for four days, Randolph then mounted sweeps around Tokyo before returning to Ulithi. On March 11, Japanese kamikaze forces mounted Operation Tan No. 2 which called for a long-range strike against Ulithi with Yokosuka P1Y1 bombers. Arriving over the Allied anchorage, one of the kamikazes struck Randolphs starboard side aft below the flight deck. Though 27 were killed, the damage to the ship was not severe and could be repaired at Ulithi. Ready to resume operations within weeks, Randolph joined American ships off Okinawa on April 7. There it provided cover and support for American troops during the Battle of Okinawa. In May, Randolphs planes attacked targets in the Ryukyu Islands and southern Japan. Made flagship of the task force on May 15, it resumed support operations at Okinawa before withdrawing to Ulithi at the end of the month. Attacking Japan in June, Randolph swapped Air Group 12 for Air Group 16 the following month. Remaining on the offensive, it raided airfields around Tokyo on July 10 before striking the Honshu-Hokkaido train ferries four days later. Moving on to the Yokosuka Naval Base, Randolphs planes struck the battleship Nagato on July 18. Sweeping through the Inland Sea, further efforts saw the battleship-carrier Hyuga damaged and installations ashore bombed. Remaining active off Japan, Randolph continued to attack targets until receiving word of the Japanese surrender on August 15. Ordered back to the United States, Randolph transited the Panama Canal and arrived at Norfolk on November 15. Converted for use as a transport, the carrier began Operation Magic Carpet cruises to the Mediterranean to bring American servicemen home. USS Randolph (CV-15) - Postwar: Concluding Magic Carpet missions, Randolph embarked US Naval Academy midshipmen in the summer of 1947 for a training cruise. Decommissioned at Philadelphia on February 25, 1948, the ship was placed in reserve status. Moved to Newport News, Randolph commenced a SCB-27A modernization in June 1951. It is not uncommon to go to the local grocery store and see guns in people vehicles. No matter how many guns are around, gun violence is not the number one killer. The disadvantage to phone calls is you can’t always get the best feeling for a sensitive situation without reading the body language. My phone number is the source for all recruitment enquiries. I need to be sensible with my time as phone calls can take a lot of time out  the day if not planned properly. For example should I be setting up an interview I use a pre written SMS/text messaged so I add candidate information and send. This reduces long phone calls and candidates respond well to a message with all the information they need. Those unsympathetic envelopes would land on the desks of various unsympathetic copy editors, who, I imagined, gave our scripts a glance and then, with a sniff, stuffed them into our self-addressed stamped envelopes. Dont forget the extra postage to cover the weight of humiliation! These days, writers still submit but the process is usually more electronically-based. INSTANT REJECTION! Huzzah! However, despite grumbling, there are ways to be known and the opportunities are far more accessible than they were even a half a dozen years ago.   I personally continue to protect the flickering flame of hope, fantasizing that one day, I will be the internet-equivalent of   Lana Turner, discovered at the soda fountain of Facebook or Reddit or on one of   the dozens of other blogs that I comment on. Comments, however, are, as an NPR report aptly notes, the cesspool of the internet.   The insights are, more often than not, inane, juvenile, frequently misogynistic or racist, or hey, all of the above. Therefore, to get noticed by a major publisher like the lauded Atlantic Magazine is nothing short of miraculous, but that is exactly what happened to Yoni Appelbaum,   a Ph.D. candidate in history from Brandeis University.
